EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

The City of Bernie has a very active Emergency Management Agency. The office is located in the Community Center at 503 South Walnut in the Southeast corner. The mailing address is EMA PO Box 605 Bernie MO 63822.

Bob Gosnell was appointed the Director of the Emergency Management Agency in 2001. Bob has also been serving as a reserve officer for the Bernie Police Department at the level of corporal since 1997. Bob works full time for Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter as the Director of Facility Services where he is responsible for policy and procedures
for disaster and has 30 years experience in this field.

The EMA is responsible for City Policy and Procedures involving emergencies in Bernie. During bad weather EMA is responsible for weather watching and notifying citizens of storms approaching. EMA will be there to head all emergency efforts, whether it be bad weather or natural disasters such as earthquakes or tornadoes.

The EMA director has been given permission to expand the department to include radio and emergency equipment, local and internet communications, along with additional personnel where needed. The EMA office will also be the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for emergencies when needed. Bob will have maps of the city and county along with diagrams of power, water, and sewer of the city and surrounding areas to help in emergency situations. He is also making a list of special needs in the community and surrounding areas.

Future plans for the Community Center are seminars on Earthquake preparedness or mitigation, Cold/Hot weather, and Tornado preparedness. Plans are being established to house community families following a disaster. If your group or organization is interested in a preparedness seminar or guest speaker please contact EMA director.
