Type III Breathalyzer Class Held
Bernie PD's: Patrolman John Atkinson, Patrolman Mitch Farmer, and Reserve Officer Nathan Vails
On November 12, 2008, the Bernie Police Department hosted a three-day Type III Breathalyzer Class at the Bernie Community Center. The class was taught by Shelby Howard from the Joplin Police Department. In attendance from the Bernie Police Department were Patrolman John Atkinson, Patrolman Mitch Farmer, and Reserve Officer Nathan Vails. Also in attendance were police officers from the Stoddard County Sheriff Department, Butler County Sheriff Department, Poplar Bluff Police Department, Canaloo Police Department, Campbell Police Department, New Madrid City Police Department, and Caruthersville Police Department. In this 40-hour Post-Certified class, officers are taught DWI Laws, Standard Field Sobriety Techniques, and how to operate the Breathalyzer machine. Upon completion of the course, officers are then certified to test subjects who are suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol on the Datamaster Breath Analyzer.
The class is attentive as Shelby Howard explains basic field sobriety techniques.
This class is only a part of the training that Bernie Police Officers must receive in order to keep their POST certification current.
